Having been a big fan of the NYHC band Gorilla Biscuits since their self-titled album this is particularly sad news. Although Alex Brown wasn’t a member of GB until the 1989 Start Today release which is recognized as their most significant album. Alex passed away from natural causes after suffering a basal ganglia stroke.
I was fortunate to see Gorilla Biscuits play the 1991 Superbowl of Hardcore at the Ritz in NYC. We’re planning to see them again in Los Angeles at the end of March but, should the show go on, will certainly be somber.
Prior to Gorilla Biscuits, Alex was a member of Side By Side, another great band that (still listen to Backfire to this day).
